Celebrate the Feminine!

I find it strange that for 50% of the World population, we only celebrate 1 day of the year. However, we can accept this as a gift of the new wave of feminism.

I have a different take on Woman & Man. The difference being purely outward. But each of us has masculine & feminine qualities – the qualities of the Sun & the Moon and I believe everyone is complete within themselves.

I am reminded of 2 incidents where this became apparent to me.

First is when I visited the Sri Aurobindo Ashram in Pondicherry. The two most prominent qualities I observed were Dignity of Labour & Gender Equality. Never did ‘woman’ or ‘man’ come into any discussion while deciding work, the labels of gender are left behind and only equals are involved in tasks – whether it be driving tractors or heading departments.

I myself had the opportunity to lead several teams during my years as Chief Architect at the NGO wing of Ashram including developing a 43-acre organic farm and leading large construction sites.

The second is when I visited the Isha Yoga Centre. I saw the beautiful image of Ardha Narishwar on the grand statue of Adiyogi. In the yogic sciences, the left and right sides of the brain & breath are referred to as Ida & Pingala. Balance is achieved when both breaths are equal & both sides of the brain are equally developed. Even the Sun – considered masculine, and the Moon – considered feminine, bring balance to the energies of the Earth. Without either of them, the earth would not be in a place of balance.

During my many travels around India, I have observed that a woman who is ‘too much of a woman’ without masculine qualities of independence & strength or a man who is ‘too much of a man’ without feminine qualities of care & intuition will be out of balance and feel incomplete.

Gender Equality is one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations to be achieved by all nations by 2030.

On occasion of Women’s Day, Auroma celebrates the feminine in each of its team members and takes great pride in being a Gender Equal Team.!
