After that day I was never the same

“I was 20 years old, sitting in a Humanities class, in my Architecture school in home-town Mumbai when my teacher introduced us to the catastrophic levels of the social and ecological devastation that happens in our country in the name of economic growth. I remember feeling so pained on that day that nothing that I was pursuing made any sense – being trained as a professional architect seemed like I was to join the bandwagon of mindless construction and to be part of an industry which is wreaking havoc for our people and our planet.’

Deep in my heart, I have always been an unshakable optimist. I believed that the future could be different from this and it could be beautiful. But the question I was asking myself on that day was: “Is the future going to be beautiful because of me or in spite of me?” On that day, I decided not to be on the conveyor belt. I decided to become a changemaker.”
